For most candidates: no. A 3-page CV is too long for the majority of roles and will hurt your chances more than it helps.

Why Most 3-Page CVs Are a Problem

Recruiters in busy London hiring cycles spend 6–7 seconds on a first scan. A third page signals one of three things:

Poor editing — you haven't prioritised your most relevant experience.

Padding — you're including irrelevant roles, outdated skills, or generic duties.

Disregard for the reader's time — not a trait employers want to hire.

Most 3-page CVs can be cut to 2 without losing anything important.

When 3 Pages Is Perfectly Fine

Academic and research CVs

Academic CVs (also called curricula vitae in the traditional sense) are expected to be comprehensive. They list publications, conference presentations, research grants, and teaching positions. 4–10 pages is normal in academia.

Executive and C-suite roles

If you have 25 years of progressive leadership experience, two pages will feel cramped. Three pages may be justified if every section earns its place.

Highly technical roles

A senior DevOps engineer or Principal Data Scientist with deep credentials, publications, open-source contributions, and certifications may legitimately fill 3 pages.

Consulting and government applications

Some government job applications in the UK specifically request a 3-page CV or longer statement of experience.

How to Cut a 3-Page CV to 2

Remove roles older than 15–20 years — unless they're directly relevant.

Trim bullet points — aim for 3–5 per role, not 8–10.

Delete the "References available on request" line — everyone knows this.

Remove an "Objective" statement — use a brief professional summary instead.

Tighten margins slightly (0.75" is acceptable).

Reduce font size to 10.5pt for body text.

Combine similar roles at the same company under one heading.

If you're applying to corporate, tech, or startup roles in the UK, aim for 2 pages maximum. Every line should justify its existence. If a sentence doesn't add evidence of your value, cut it.
